Such a Cute Little Church
Drumheller's Little Church的点评
点评：After patronizing the Royal Tyrrell Museum (always a pleasure), and before visiting the World’s Largest Dinosaur (primary reason for the visit to Drumheller – to say “goodbye”), M and I decided to check out Drumheller’s famed Little Church. The small non-denominational church has become a landmark over the decades and makes for a convenient stop after visiting the larger museum because it’s literally a 2-minute drive further up North Dinosaur Trail; so, why not take it in?
The Little Church was originally built in 1958 (as per the sign posted outside) and was rebuilt in 1991 by inmates from the federally-run Drumheller Institution, which I think is kind of neat. Interestingly, the Little Church was substantially repaired – again by inmates – in 2015 after some loser vandalized this little treasure the year before.
We only stopped here for about 10 minutes or so, but it was an impactful visit. As many of the earlier TripAdvisor reports note, the Little Church can hold six persons at a time and, besides being a fun tourist attraction, is utilized many times a year for important functions like weddings or prayer; thus, this little space should absolutely be respected.
And yes, the badlands backdrop does make for an interesting selfie!
One final aside: I can’t help but compare Drumheller’s Little Church to another little church: The Usk Memorial Chapel just outside of Terrace, BC. Built in 1967, the Usk Memorial Chapel is slightly larger and could hold approximately 12 persons (as opposed to 6). Sadly, it has also faced vandalism in recent years.
In any case, if you’re visiting Drumheller, don’t miss out on this cute Little Church. It is totally worth the brief stop!
