点评:We had the pleasure of touring this mansion last week while visiting Abilene. We met Terry Tietjens, its current owner, who is as nice and interesting a person as one can will ever meet. Terry lived in the mansion for many years with the former owners, two elderly ladies, and still lives on the grounds but not in the mansion. Prior to our tour, Terry gave us the history of the man who built it, Mr. Seelye, who manufactured and sold a variety of patent medicines and herbal supplements and made a fortune doing so.
The house tour was very interesting and our guide was a walking encyclopedia of Seelye information. The tour encompasses all three floors of the mansion as well as the basement. The condition is immaculate which is living testimony to Terry's love of it. One of the highlights was the "box-bowling" alley in the basement. I had never heard of that form of bowling having grown up in the northeast with candlepin and duckpin bowling. It may be the last box-bowling lane in existence. Every one on the tour had the opportunity to roll a few balls down the alley.
For anyone visiting Abilene, this is a must-visit!
