This is the saddest zoo I have ever visited. The enclosures — more accurately, cages — are far too small, and there is almost no enrichment available for the animals. Most of them looked visibly unhappy and depressed. I walked around with a heavy heart, and at several points I found myself close to tears.
I am well-travelled and have visited many zoos and wildlife parks around the world, but this place felt more like a jail for animals than a sanctuary. The gorillas seem to have a well-designed habitat, which shows that it is possible to create proper living spaces — but unfortunately, that’s where the positives end. Beyond that, nearly everything goes downhill.
Many enclosures appear worn-out and neglected. There is no fresh grass, only dry, brown debris. The overall environment feels lifeless and unstimulating.
My advice to the zoo:
-Provide meaningful enrichment to simulate natural behaviours.
-Introduce feeding methods that encourage animals to move, think, and work for their food.
-Create safe, private areas where animals can retreat away from constant public view.
-Add climbing structures, plants, and natural materials to mimic wild habitats.
-Ensure each enclosure is spacious, clean, and designed around the needs of the species living in it.
-MOST of all take the Elephants off the chains. Elephants are the largest land mammals on Earth treat them with respect.
Until major improvements are made, I would strongly recommend avoiding this zoo. It was a deeply upsetting experience.
