点评：Currently (2/21/26)- if you are booking here bc it’s the closest to Mex City, know there is major road construction and it took us 4hrs from Roma Norte hotel. Also, there were a lot of butterflies this weekend but they are very active and appear to be preparing to depart.
The hike- it’s legit. If you are prone to altitude sickness, start taking meds 1-2 days before your trip. Parking lot is ~9400’ and the butterflies are between 10,500-11,000’. The hike is straight up and takes about 1 hr for someone in very good shape. It’s very busy on weekends so there is only so fast you can go. Up and down must pass on the same path. You can rent a horse for 350 pesos to take you up and down. Obviously it’s easier than hiking but if you are extra large or very old, just know it’s not super comfortable either. Going up seems ok but people were nervous coming down. The wranglers lead your horse the whole time but the trail is steep. It’s very dusty so know your shoes will be trashed. The bathrooms are only at bottom and cost 5-8 pesos. There is plenty of food and souvenirs at the bottom too. Take water up with you.
