Institute for American Indian Studies的点评
点评：A hidden gem, tucked away in remote Connecticut, the Institute has both a museum and a research area. The museum area, our guide explained, shows the development of Native American peoples from earlier nomadic days into agricultural and later phases, through attempts to modernize them. The indoor exhibits show each of these, with artifacts from each period.
Also indoors is an historic area, showing members of the Schaghticoke tribe in recent years. There is a Hall of Elders showing portraits of leaders of the tribe.
A surprise for my wife: A photo of Trudi Lamb, who knew her aunt very well. Trudi was a fierce advocate for indigenous people and the Schaghticoke tribe in particular. She was an educator, tribal storyteller, and director of the Institute. Trudi Lamb's legacy indeed lives on in the Institute and the people she mentored.
Another special treat for my wife: the curator showed us some baskets, not in the usual display area, that were woven by her ancestors only two generations removed.
In all, a very informative visit, worthwhile for families, kids, and adults.
