Lead photo in the article is NOT Karakul Lake!

点评：Karakul Lake is a beautiful destination.
BUT! The "lead photo" shown on Tripadvisor (photo uploaded by the Australian "Karmaexplorer" in 2017 is *NOT* Karakul Lake! I don't know if "Karmaexplorer" labeled it as "Karakul Lake" when it was submitted it to Tripadvisor, or whether this was a photo management error within Tripadvisor. The very picturesque body of water shown in Karmaexplorer's photo is actually 琼块勒巴什 (variously rendered as "Qiongkuai Lebash", "Qiongkaui Lebashi", or "Qiongkuai Lebashen") On the internet you may sometimes see it informally called "Baisha Lake" (literally "White sand lake". But that name is a bit confusing since it is commonly applied to a lake in Henan province.
Like the real "Karakul Lake" in Xinjiang , Qiongkuai Lebash is also along the Karakoram Highway. Stop and take photos, but then continue on the road to the true Karakul Lake! (to add more confusion, there is also a "Karakul Lake" in Tajikistan)
Note: if you are a user of Google Maps, the "map view" of QiongKuai Lebash is quite misleading. But if you switch to the satellite view it becomes quite visible.
Also note that the Tripadvisor form did not allow me to enter the date I was actually at Karakul Lake (July 2017)
