点评：It’s easy to understand why Derwentwater is often referred to as “The Queen of the Lakes” as it really does have everything. Boat, car or on foot, it’s easy to spend a full day on or around the lake.
If arriving by car, there is a large car park near the Theatre by the Lake but make sure you are parked between the lines as there are some very eagle eyed car park attendants around! Toilets are by the car park but better to use the toilets at the nearby cafe if you don’t want to pay.
It’s a short walk from the car park to the Lake where you can buy tickets for the famous launches. You can sail all around the lake or sail part way and have a walk, returning to the boat at a later time. The views are magnificent!
It’s possible to drive around the lake where again you can experience superb views. The road from Keswick towards Borrowdale is very picturesque as it mainly follows the lake side. There are a couple of National Trust car parks on that particular section of the road with great views of Catbells and its neighbouring fells. When you reach Grange in Borrowdale cross over the river by the old bridge and follow the road along the other side of the lake. Parking places are limited ( unfortunately, some visitors assume they can park in designated passing places) but there are amazing views across the lake towards Skiddaw and Blencathra.
It is possible to walk right around the Lake if you’ve sufficient energy - but one short but very beautiful walk is from the car park to Friars’ Crag. It’s on the level and ends with fantastic views down the length of Derwentwater to Castle Crag and beyond.
