点评:We visited Kelmscott Manor on a gloriously sunny early autumn day, which added a mellow glow to the lovely rambling gardens & buildings. Laden fruit trees & tangled foliage made it easy to see the inspiration behind Morris' textile designs. The peaceful & well-worn old house, although uncluttered, is a treasure trove of beautiful objects & interesting nooks & crannies to explore. Each room-guide was friendly & knowledgeable, without being obtrusive, which greatly enhanced our visit. Kelmscott Church is also a must. We all had a wonderful day & would recommend anyone to go there - but see below.
Unfortunately, two things prevented us from giving a very good/excellent rating.
One of our family members is wheelchair-dependent. Although there are plenty of disability parking spaces, the 'grasscrete' car park surface was a health & safety nightmare. We ended up weaving our way backwards, along concrete edges, from the car to the exit; a bumpy & nerve-wracking ride for him.
Secondly, access to the very good disabled toilet, in a courtyard barn, is across an expanse of old, attractive but uneven, cobbles. Although carpet had been placed inside the barn, which did help slightly, the wheelchair experience for passenger & (older) operator wasn't great.
We knew beforehand that there is no wheelchair access to the upper floors but provision of a video display downstairs was helpful.
