The distinction is that the Cawker City Ball of Twine is the collective work of visitors from all over the world and continues to grow in size, while the Minnesota Ball of Twine was created by just one man and has not expanded since the 1970's. It's frozen in time, as it were.
There is plenty of street parking and a bathroom across the highway in a nearby restaurant. The best reason to stop in Cawker City is that you can say that you've seen the World's Largest Ball of Twine. That, and the attraction is free. This is also within reasonable driving distance of the Geographic Center of the US and also the cabin where the song "Home on the Range" was written, so it's possible to enjoy a lot of Americana in just one day.
