If you care about animal welfare, this place is horrendous

点评：I wish I had checked reviews for this place instead of relying on the description on the World of Birds web-site -- this place was horrible. Earlier in our trip we had had an amazing experience at The Elephant and Monkey Sanctuary in Hartbeesport, just outside Johannesburg, and we thought the experience at World of Birds would be similar. That could not be further from the truth. World of Birds is not an animal sanctuary, it is a zoo. With the exception of a few birds, most of the animals are in VERY small enclosures. I asked one of the employees if the animals were ever allowed out of their cages to roam around and I was told "no." When I said, "That's so sad," the employee nodded in agreement and truly looked like they regretted the conditions the animals were living in. The interaction with the monkeys was also sad. The monkeys kept jumping back onto the keeper and then the keeper would gently toss them onto us and bribe them to sit on us by giving them sunflower seeds. I think the best thing that could happen would be for this place to shut down and for the animals held captive inside to be transferred to actual sanctuaries. After we left I cried my eyes out... I felt so sorry for the animals there.
