点评:Having travelled across the country to go on a whale watching trip, we were mortified when it was cancelled two days in a row due to the weather. Husavik Whale Museum seemed like a good way to ‘see some whales’ up close so we thought we’d give it a go! Although probably not quite as exciting as seeing the real thing, we really enjoyed our visit here.
The museum looked quite small and unassuming from the outside, but once inside it seems enormous! There’s so much to look at and so much information to read and absorb.
I love whales and I was a bit concerned that it might be a little sad seeing all of the skeletons, but felt reassured that nearly all of them were labeled and being sourced from strandings and died from natural causes. The information about Icelands whaling history was also presented tactfully and gave an unbiased explanation of how and why whaling started and continues in Iceland. There were plenty of more upbeat displays about all sorts of things too.
The museum also boasts a fantastic gift shop (arguably the best part of any museum 😂) and the staff are really helpful and friendly. Overall, a good way to spend some time and good value too.
