Small Museum About German Politician, Recreated 18th Century Apartment
Friedrich Ebert Memorial的点评
点评:This is a small museum about the life and times of Friedrich Ebert, a German politician and first president of the German (Weimar) Republic.
Entrance to the museum was through the gateway off Pfaffengasse and across the courtyard. Entry was free, and the visit through the museum consisted of going up some stairs and then around the interior buildings of that courtyard. The first section of the museum was a recreation of Ebert’s late-nineteenth-century childhood flat. Decorated with modest period furniture and consisting of only three rooms, it showed the living conditions for a large family at that time. The next, and by far larger, section of the museum, consisted of displays and artifacts describing the political and personal history of Ebert through to his death in 1925. While colorful and extensive, the displays were almost entirely in German. Audio guides were available (via one’s own smartphone), but we arrived shortly before closing time, so we absorbed as much as we could with our rudimentary German during our short visit.
Facilities included restrooms and a gift shop. Parts of the museum involved going outside, along the balcony of that interior courtyard mentioned above, so that could be a consideration during colder weather. There were no issues with photography.
Recommended for those interested in German history, although a visit to the recreated flat alone would certainly be feasible for guests with that particular interest.
