Wild Riding Through Volcanic Landscapes: Hekluhestatr’s Off-Season Magic

点评：I can't say enough good things about my experience with Hekluhestar. Everything exceeded expectations from the initial booking process (where owner Anita made an exception to accommodate me during off-season) to the final gallop.
What makes Hekluhestar special is immediately apparent to any horse person. Before riding, I was introduced to the horses' distinct personalities and given my choice. I selected the more spirited option, then enjoyed the full experience of grooming and tacking up before setting out.
My guide Stefnir was exceptional - knowledgeable, fun, and thoughtful enough to capture photos and videos that perfectly captured our adventure. He was joined by two delightful French wranglers training for the summer season, whose enthusiasm added fresh energy to our small group.
**Two aspects truly set this experience apart**
First, the location is extraordinary. We had complete freedom to run wild across vast volcanic landscapes, fording streams, tölting and galloping endlessly over softly rolling hills with no roads in sight. Iceland's most famous glacier-capped volcanoes provided a stunning backdrop throughout.
Second, in a magical moment during the latter part of our ride, we joined a herd of at least two dozen horses, stopping to rest as they curiously approached our party - a connection to Iceland's horse culture that felt authentic and special.
Hekluhestar's excellent reputation is well-earned. Although I've done several day tours throughout Iceland, my fondest dream has been to experience a multi-day trek into the Icelandic highlands. Now that I've experienced Hekluhestar first-hand, there is no question I will be booking that dream trek with them!
For an authentic riding experience through Iceland's wild volcanic landscapes, I couldn't recommend Hekluhestar more highly.
