Great safari sleepover
威勒比开放式动物园的点评
点评：Last month, I did the Slumber Safari with my parents and older brother and would highly recommend it. Depending on when you book, your hosts for the experience differ. For this one, we had two delightful gentlemen named Erin and Jay plus a local volunteer named Garry; Garry drove an electric buggy to ferry around Dad (due to mobility issues) and anyone else who was unable to walk. All three of them were highly knowledgeable about the work of Zoos Victoria and of course, the wildlife. At the same time, they made participants feel welcome by encouraging us to share our own experiences with wildlife, Zoos Victoria and zoos in general.
One of the things that I loved most about the sleepover was the vibe or atmosphere. Going on a night walk in the dark with a small group of people (as opposed to being wall to wall with visitors) to see the lions was a very different experience to the one you’d get in the day time as a regular visitor and in the best possible way. Similarly, the morning after (before the zoo opened) was very different. For me, the highlight was joining Dad and Garry on the buggy to see Kulinda the cheetah. We were treated to a rare sighting of her coming right up to the front of her habitat and got some great photos, too.
In terms of food, we were well fed with an African style buffet dinner plus dessert. Then in the morning, we had a cooked breakfast. Mum and I especially loved the pancake machine
The cabins were immaculately clean with comfortable beds and each cabin had their own bathroom, including wonderfully hot showers. The one thing I disliked: the canvas walls. I thought they were meant to be wooden huts but they’re more glamping accommodation. Due to the wind, the canvas banged about in the wind all night and it made for a hard time getting to sleep.
