Scone Palace的点评
点评：We visited Scone Palace on the last leg of our Highlands tour. The day was overcast with drizzle and light rain picking up in the afternoon.
As we drove down the estate road I saw a groundskeeper using a remote control mower and had to laugh at the juxtaposition of the 9th and 21st centuries. Scotland contains a lot of history.
The beautiful grounds eventually give way to the entrance and car park. The public toilets are beside the parking lot. This is a private residence so you will have to pay for entry and parking.
As usual, when visiting sites with extensive grounds, we usually split up so that my Sweety can explore while I chat with the ubiquitous guides. I was fortunate to be close to the building when the rain turned steady.
The palace is full of historical items from the everyday life of the early 19th century. The history of the area stretches back to the 9th century when the first Scottish king was crowned on the Stone of Scone in 841 AD.
I would like to thank the owners of the palace for making it available to the public in order to highlight the history of Scotland from the Middle Ages to the present. Every room has a surprise for visitors.
Of course it would be impossible to pull off without the help of the volunteer guides who are always ready and willing to talk about the palace and offer their own insights. It seemed like we had great chats in every room.
As usual in Scotland the guides and staff in the canteen and gift shop were all lovely, cheerful and courteous. I can definitely say that many new things were learned from the Scone Palace.
I would recommend that you visit this treasure trove of Scottish history. Give yourself a few hours to walk the trails on the estate and explore the plethora of antiques and artifacts in the palace proper.
We did not avail ourselves of the food services because we brought some pie shop goodies for lunch in the parking lot. Probably a lot cheaper than the canteen toasties.
