点评:Visited with a small group tour of 14 people with our guide .
This had been on our “ to visit “ list for many years . So glad we finally found a tour from UK that included this destination.
Out of 23 monasteries built there are now 6 left . We visited 2 , Megalo Meteora and Agios Stephanos , which date from the 14th century. Lots of stairs but it was quite easy walking .
Beautiful artwork, interesting architecture, spectacular views . Well worth the visit & all the better with a beautiful sunny & hot day .
We were here for several hours and really could have stayed longer . It never seemed to get so crowded that you felt uncomfortable , anxious or hurried along .
We were given a dress code ….men in trousers & long sleeve shirt …..women in dress or skirt , no trousers & shoulders covered .
This seems not to be “ policed “ at all . Loads of ladies in trousers & tops , which didn’t seem an issue , although I did see a few men in a skirt like wrap , so probably had shorts on to start . Just need to show respect to the monks & nuns & their home .
