Lovely but underexploited and not well looked after

点评：The palace must be stunning inside but it was closed for renovations. As usual in Greece, rather than carefully looking after such precious historical places with continuous maintenance they let them run down nearly to the ground. And instead of repairing one room at a time to keep the building open and charging higher priced necessary to generate income to keep the place going, they shut it down in full, loose money and keep precious opportunities for contact with history away from people who may not have another chance to visit in future. The gardens were nice and had stunnings views of the island and sea. Some stunning statues have been restored but the flower beds, trees and pergolas really are not looked after well enough to make justice to the beauty of the place. Pergola by the tickets office was half dead as it wasn’t even watered and it was meant to be providing shadow for visitors queuing to buy tickets!! The Palace has a nice large forest around which could provide space for a lot more art and wellbeing activities, walking and trekking experiences and all sorts of events and activities, etc but it’s out of reach for the public. Another underexploited jewel in Corfu… Price was ok given that only the gardens were open but should be increased if the palace internal parts reopen as 7€ is too cheap for such lovely monument.
