点评:Orongo is not actually the name of the volcano here so that is not under review - it has its own entry under Rano Kau.
What is at Orongo is an ancient settlement site with houses clinging to the clifftop and the place where the Birdman competition started from.
At the indoor Ceremonial Centre you will learn all about the Birdman cult and see old sketches and photographs as well as some information on the original petroglyphs that were looted by expedition crews who cam upon the island. The saddest part of the display though is learning of 'Our Stolen Friend' which is the moai held at the British Museum and how the locals want him to come back.
Not a large exhibition but very educational nonetheless and to be able to view the sheer cliffs and off the coast island that are mentioned in the tales.
