点评:This reserve is much more rustic than the others, also at a much higher elevation (1,600-1,700 meters above sea level). It's run by a local consortium, with the proceeds going to a nearby high school. They don't get anywhere near the same level of tourists, which makes it really wonderful from my point of view. Prices are also much more resasonable. They also provide a shuttle bus service, picking up at the various hotels in Santa Elena/Monteverde for an extra 2,000 colones per person each way.
Also, this is where the quetzales nest, so if you don't see them at Curi Cancha come here.
When we visited, there were no quetzales and on our 2 1/2 hour tour we saw just a few small birds and a lot of tarantulas, plus a very colourful milipede. There is also a little orchid garden near the main welcome centre, which made a nice stop. They also have an observation deck atop the main mountain, which if the weather is good you can see the Pacific, Lake Nicaragua, and Caribbean. For me this was a much more relaxed and enjoyable hike through very dense cloud forests.
