Exploring Melbourne’s Lanes & Arcades….
街区拱廊的点评
点评：The Block Arcade is another of Melbourne’s posher arcades. Opened in 1892, it is a beautifully restored Victorian-era shopping arcade.
Like the nearby Royal Arcade, it oozes old-world charm. There’s the intricately tiled floors with mosaic floral and geometric patterns, the high, vaulted ceilings and ornamental metalwork, a glass domed roof, and the historic Hopetoun Tea Rooms.
It doesn’t take much to imagine a thriving 19th century Melbourne where men in suits and straw boaters and women in bustles and elaborate hats arrived in carriages to shop in this elegant arcade.
The shops here are mostly small, upmarket shops. You wont find chain stores or outlets here. Much as I enjoy walking through the arcade, I don’t really do any real shopping here. The one exception is Haigh’s Chocolates but it’s impossible to resist their hand-made chocolates.
