点评:We visited Scienceworks during our holiday with my two science-loving tweens and were really looking forward to it. We arrived not long after opening and, for a brief moment, had the place mostly to ourselves. There were lots of interactive exhibits and hands-on activities, which my kids were excited to explore.
However, many of the exhibits were looking tired and in need of a good clean, which was a bit disappointing given the venue’s educational focus.
Unfortunately, within 15 minutes of arriving, several large school groups entered, and the environment quickly became chaotic. It became extremely loud, crowded, and overwhelming. My kids barely had the chance to explore half the displays as groups of students pushed in, crowded around exhibits to chat with friends, and dominated the space. The noise and general atmosphere quickly became too much, and we ended up leaving within the hour with a few others from the general public.
While entry was reasonably priced, the cost of Ubers to and from the venue from the CBD where we were staying made the short, stressful visit feel like poor value for money, especially for something my kids had been so excited about.
Scienceworks has so much potential, but perhaps it’s time to consider timed entry slots or visitor caps during peak periods, like the Brisbane science museum does. That could help balance school visits with general public enjoyment and create a better more inclusive experience for everyone.
