点评:Just camped for the 4th time (lean-to) at ELSP. We love the lake with its variety of play boats for rent, sandy swimming area, and ice cream. My youngest daughter fell in love with a « hidden, » out of the way rope swing years ago. We didn’t mean to grow attached to this smaller, family centered park that’s between the Taconic Mountains and the Green Mountains—it was an overnight stop on a much longer camping trip (from Virginia) with the lean-to, plus the spacing between us and our final destination, being the main draws—but we did. We keep looking forward to coming back to it and exploring the surrounding area.
Most prime lean-to spots are spacious enough for one to find an area for a large tent away from the fire if the lean-to is being used for covered seating/storage/extra sleeping quarters.
There is some road noise at night, but that’s to be expected given it’s a small campground off of a well traveled rural route & the fact that noise reverberates between mountains.
Also, we visited nearly a month after *major* flooding hit a lot of VT, including areas nearby. Evidence of all the rain was apparent on Vista Trail; the combo of late season mud & shade/overgrowth yielded tons of mosquitoes. We were covered in Off « Deep Woods » spray, but still had to abort the hike after only about 2/3 of a mile in & no views. The rest of the park was extremely well kept.
Other local things we appreciate:
+town of Manchester shopping (Manchester Woodcraft, a comfy Northshire Bookstore with good section on VT and surrounding area, a Vermont Flannel Co. store w/ U.S. assembled stuff)
+Bob’s Diner - dependably great breakfast;
esp. hot and good when it rains while camping
+Taylor Farm - lovely place—pull in & pet animals or go into the small store w/local cheeses & goods; owners have been there decades—sharp & will cheerfully share their wealth of knowledge about the area
+Bromely Mountain - mountain coaster; modestly priced sunset pass (closes at 5 most days) is a good deal
+Robert Frost Stone House - (small admission fee now) offers sweet picture of author’s family life, its place in his literary life, his home & property; small bookshop area; buy a copy of *New Hampshire* & read some poems aloud outside in meadow/garden/remains of Frost family apple orchard to whomever you’re with
+Bob’s Diner - 可靠的美味早餐;
+Bromely Mountain -
