点评:The Gateway Arch is an iconic monument celebrating the United States westward expansion in the 1800s. The impressive stainless-steel structure was completed in 1965. I purchased a combination ticket online in advance that included a tram ride to the observation deck inside the top of the Arch at a specific time and a 60-minute riverboat cruise on the Mississippi River. Beware of the tram/elevator if you are very claustrophobic. At the top is a gallery with views out both sides through windows with downtown St Louis to the west and the Mississippi River to the east. Although it's pretty cool to ride to the top, the exterior views of the Arch are more impressive than the views from inside. Inside the visitor center is an excellent in-depth museum exploring the history of St Louis and the United States from colonial times through westward expansion and explains the importance of transportation on the Mississippi in the 1800s. I scheduled the riverboat tour just before sunset and the highlight of the tour was the views of the Arch from the river. There is no dedicated parking lot when visiting Gateway Arch National Park. Metered parking is found along Memorial Drive just north of the Arch or in downtown city parking lots.
