Brilliant tour of the Cathedral, based the amazing renovation underway. Not to be missed!

点评：We took our tour with Eztizen. She is an amazing guide! She specializes in art history. It was the best tour we have ever been on, and we have been on many tours! FYI I am not religious in any way, but a friend told us it was a fabulous tour and she was right. First, you go below the Cathedral and see the newly reinforced foundations. You are told about the evolution of the Cathedral from wwhen it was first just a Roman church, and how the building technology changed over time. Then you go onto the main floor of the Cathedral and hear about how the Cathedral began falling apart, which is what inspired the massive renovation currently underway. Then you climb the spiral stone staircase to the first battlement. Then you walk around the upper gallery. Then you climb or take the elevator to almost the top of the building, to the outdoor level. Then you walk back down to see the smaller chapel where, using laser technology, you are shown how it was painted differently at different times. The whole project of rebuilding the Cathedral, thus creating tons of local jobs and demand for local construction materials, and then documenting the reconstruction process, and using it as a way to educate the public, is brilliant. If you only do one thing in Vitoria-Gasteiz, this is it.
