Great and Unique Entertainment District that Should be a Part of Your Toronto Visit

点评：With the sale of Gooderham & Worts in 1987 and operational closure of the Toronto facility in the 1990s, Toronto became holder of one of the most unique assets, the worldwide leader in Victorian era industrial buildings. The site was and still is 13 acres of 40 heritage buildings and 10 brick streets. So, in the 2000s they embraced a mixed-use retail and residential plan to bring new life to the city with a new entertainment district. Over the last 20 years, the property has redeveloped itself into retail, bar and restaurant spaces with large open public gathering spaces for entertainment whether concerts, amusement or even line dancing as we saw.
This is a totally free to enter district set in old 100+ year old buildings that now are designed for 21st century uses. It is fun to simply see the former industrial setting that now is a filming location for period production. At the same time, it is fun to walk and see active programing that brings people to the district. Once there it is likely they will shop, eat or drink. There are crowds in the district which means even though there is more street parking than normal downtown, I would recommend an Uber to see the district. That is what we did.
We planned our visit to do just that eating dinner at El Catrin, a Mexican restaurant on a back side street, before going to Scooped by Demetres for ice cream dessert. We visited on the Saturday night of Labor Day Weekend, and the public spaces were full of people enjoying a set of line dancing as a part of Country Fest. There was also a Ferris wheel and numerous sets of decorative lights. It was fun to see and experience the district especially as it transformed from day to night. I am not saying you want to build your Toronto stay around the Distillery District; however, you will want to be sure to plan a visit to the district during your Toronto stay. Pick a restaurant, bar or dessert shop and make the visit to the Distillery District.
