点评:I popped into this spot on the SMU campus around 10:30 on a cold, drizzly Tuesday morning, and I ended up losing track of time in front of the massive Baroque altar screen near the start of the permanent galleries. The carving on it is overwhelmingly intricate, covered in gold leaf that still catches the overhead spotlights in a very unique way, and standing right under it gave me actual chills. You can get close enough to see the chisel marks in the wood and all the tiny details in the saints' faces, which was an increadible surprise since you rarely get that kind of access in bigger city museums without a sea of heads blocking your view. There was even a local art class quietly sketching nearby in Spanish, which added to the calm atmosphere. The rest of the galleries were great too, especially the Goyas and the upstairs temporary space, but that altar alone was worth the whole drive over from Fort Worth.
