点评:Charles Washington, George Washington's youngest brother, built this two-stories house in the 1760's as his private home. Today this is really historic landmark of Fredericksburg and many people come to this town specifically to visit this landmark. We were no exception, making a stop on our way from Richmond to Washington.
The Rising Sun Tavern Museum provides a lively interpretation of late 18th-century Tavern life as well as this original structure contains period furniture and artifacts. Museum open daily, 10 am - 4 pm.
You can explore on your own, but a very pleasant attendant will answer all your questions and immerse you in the atmosphere of the 18th century with his story. Since 1792 the tavern operating as a stopover for travelers (after Washington family sold this house to other owner) for 35 years and it was a popular diversion for travelers and locals alike. We saw how bygone visitors slept, learned their menu for a day and evening, what they ate and drank and enjoyed to try historic costumes. Definitely worth a visit if you find yourself in the beautiful town of Fredericksburg.
