Beautiful Castle in Schwerin worth getting up early for
Schwerin Castle (Schweriner Schloss)的点评
点评：We visited Schwerin after Hamburg during a road trip around Germany and this castle looked very nice and we are glad we did. We got to the castle when it opened at 10 am and are glad we did because the crowds start coming after that. There are several restored rooms, original furnishings and original/restored decor. There are many well decorated rooms but the best are the throne room and portrait room. There are signs throughout in English and German.
The castle dates back to 973 and was built up into the grand palace it is today in the 1800s. The exterior and surrounding area is worth checking out because there is a nice garden, orangery, grotto and the castle is on the banks of a very scenic lake area. We spent a couple of hours walking inside and around the castle.
The cost to enter is 8.5 euros and includes an audio guide that works in multiple languages and provides a very detailed history on most rooms. There are limited audio guides so we felt it was good that we got there early so we could get one and go. There are lockers that work with a 1 euro coin deposit which you can get back after you pick up your items There is a nice gift shop and cafe on site too as well as plenty of bathrooms inside the museum area. Outside there is a washcart that is just outside the museum entrance and is free to use. The castle grounds around the castle are free to enter and open late.
It is just under a 2 hour drive from Hamburg to get to Schwerin and we found affordable covered parking at CONTIPARK Parkhaus Am Schloss which is a short walk from the castle. We saw some other sites in Schwerin but cut our trip short because of the weather. From here it takes just under 3 hours to get to Berlin.
