点评:The Barbara Fritchie House, located heading out the west end of Patrick Street preserves a part of history that many of us remember from primary school. The famous poem calling on the confederate soldiers to "Shoot, if you must, this old gray head, But spare your country's flag, she said," is featured in a large mural at the back of the small brick house. The poem by Whittier features in full on a historical plaque at the side of the house bordering Carroll Creek. The plaque also explains that the original house was demolished 1868 and reconstructed in 1926-27. This might assuage somewhat the disappointment of some visitors who find one cannot tour the building as it is now a guesthouse (B&B). Also, only minimal street parking is available.
