点评:We entered this museum knowing nothing about Felicien Rops and left fascinated by his story and the evolution of his taboo-breaking art.
Whilst there are no English captions, it is possible to download an app which covers most of the main events and pictures with unpretentious, informative and well-articulated commentary. Only issue is that some of the numbers and commentaries either don't match or are missing.
The temporary exhibition (Japoniaiseries.) was well curated and supported by a wide range of high quality exhibits.
You get the very strong impression that this museum is determined to do justice to an artist that is barely known outside Belgium with a high quality presentation of his body of work. We were particularly delighted that, despite often challenging imagery which would readily attract hostility from those who make it their mission to take offence, either on their part or on the part of others living, dead or imaginary, there were no adolescent trigger warnings or convoluted apologies.
