点评：Planned to call in past in the afternoon, but parking was utter madness, with parking bays completely full up - so drove on to Mallaig, and visited hours later, on the way back. Parked up the hill outside beautiful St. Mary & St. Finnan Church, and walked down to the monument. It’s in a truly dramatic location at the head of Loch Shiel, with stunningly beautiful panoramic views. The 18 metre high tower, designed by James Gillespie Graham, was built in 1815 to commemorate the clansmen who died fighting for Bonnie Prince Charlie in the 1745 Jacobite rising. A figure of a lone kilted Highlander standing at the top , is a poignant reminder of the lives lost to the Jacobite cause. During opening hours you can visit the visitor centre & climb the monument - but we were visiting after hours , when it was quieter. Lots of lovely walks in the area to appreciate the glorious Highland surroundings.
