点评:Glacier Bay is a very deep waterway, with the average depth being 800 feet which is a consequence of the scouring out by the Glaciers but then their eventual retreat! When you study the maps from the time of Cpt. George Vancouver in 1794 up to today's visit you realise that the Glaciers won't be around forever! On our trip we had a small crew of Park Rangers join the boat for the day and they set up workshops, info boards, brochures & gave talks. The Bay has several tidewater glaciers and valley glaciers with many others in the mountainous regions. Most current Glaciers are retreating or stationary in the Margerie Glaciers case whilst the John Hopkins Glacier is believed to still be advancing. The science of Glaciers is complex and still being learnt about today. While we had a great day and got up close to 3 Glaciers, we had no luck with the wildlife and only spotted varied birdlife, but it was well worth the time and thoroughly enjoyable.
