点评:As the seat of the Dutch government located in the heart of The Hague, the Binnenhof is undoubtedly the most important place in the Netherlands. This grandiose complex, housing both chambers of parliament along with other government offices and anchored by the iconic Ridderzaal (Knight's Hall), is where key policy decisions shaping the country's fate are made. Built in the 13th century as a castle for the counts of Holland, the Gothic buildings eventually became the political hub of the Dutch Republic from the late 16th century onwards. Beyond its political significance as the symbol of democracy, this iconic landmark is definitely worth a visit even if it's just to appreciate its stunning architectural beauty and rich historical value. It's a shame that the entire complex was currently closed to the public due to an extensive renovation, so I was not able to access even the enormous square in front of the Ridderzaal. Nonetheless, the best place to admire the Binnenhof in its entirety is to view it from across the Hofvijver pond.
