点评：Armed robbery warning.
Nice beach near Orient Bay with much calmer waters. A little off the beaten path (a bumpy, part-dirt to get there), but had read about it being a nice calm beach. Went one day to check it out and a quick swim, only one other person there. Liked it so much we returned the next day for a longer stay. There were two large families also there.
When we parked, we noticed a man hanging out under a tree with a red motorcycle. Looked a little suspicious but didn't think too much of it, especially since there were quite a few people around. I went in the water and my friends set up under a tree a little further back. 10 or so minutes later they, and the other people on the beach, were frantically calling everyone out of the water. A man in mask with a gun had jumped out of the bushes behind them. One saw him and screamed, he demanded their bags, the other friend gave him one of the napsacks he had and luckily he didn't notice the other bag (although they said the guy seemed to not know what he was doing). He then got on the motorcycle with the guy who was under the tree and they took off.
Luckily, it was the bag with towels and sunscreen and not the one with wallet and car keys.
It's not clear how common this is, but it was all quite jarring. We now feel we need to stick to heavily populated areas for the remainder of our trip and will have to skip some of the interesting beaches we were hoping to explore. The manager of our Airbnb was quite surprised, and said it was the first time he had heard of this at Galion beach. However two days later he told me that a similar incident had just occurred on the south side of Orient Bay, not nearly as secluded.
Obviously, this type of thing can happen anywhere, but when it does happen, especially in an unfamiliar setting, it changes your outlook.
I imagine that most times the beach is perfectly safe, but wanted to put out the warning.
