点评：The film ‘Party of a showgirl’ to promote Taylor Swift’s latest album ‘Life of a showgirl’ uses clever digital cinematic techniques to deliver several MTV style ‘pop’ videos, supplemented with ‘behind the scenes’ production peeks.
Averaging an album every two years, this is Taylor Swift’s twelfth album in her 20 year ‘slow and steady’ career.
Although in places the film lacked ‘sparkle’ - with too much emphasis on digital image stretching and crushing - Taylor pays warm and sincere homage to the ingenious cinematic techniques of Alfred Hitchcock and Jack Cardiff; and the artistic brilliance of Busby Berkeley; George Michael; and Elizabeth Taylor as Taylor explains in an affectionate intimate way her rationale and meaning behind each song.
One good point is that our local HMV music store carried the album in vinyl and 24-bit CD format so you could instantly indulge in the songs as soon as you watched the show. However – after enquiring at the store – I was informed that the music VIDEOS, or the film, will not be available on DVD or BluRay – which – considering how much time, money, and effort was spent to produce the videos and create this ‘one show only’ film – shows that Taylor Swift’s promo and marketing team have ‘missed a trick’ by not making the music videos available on digital media.
Who would want to listen to SOUNDTRACKS of FILMS that feature the spectacular dances of Busby Berkeley; The Nicholson brothers; Fred Astaire; Eleanor Powell; Gene Kelly; and Donald O’Connor – tripping the light fantastic to the music of Harry Warren, Cole Porter, and Irvin Berlin - when you can SEE the magic? With few exceptions, records and CDs are ‘dead in the water’ – take a look – the charity shops are full of them.
