点评：Upington is a major center for grape growing in the Northern Cape, and although the climate is not strictly ideal for wine making, there is a new and flourishing wine trail that one can follow. The leading vineyard in the area is Orange River Cellars, who now have a wide range of wines all very moderately priced and incredibly cheap by US standards. I booked a wine tasting for myself and my wife and our two great friends John and Jen from Johhannesburg--they are serious wine connoisseurs and were slightly snooty about Norhtern Cape wines! But they were very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the wines we tasted! The tasing is cleverly arranged--you pick a number of wines (and spritis) you would like to taste off a list and they are brought out to your table, along with delicious snacks. There is also an inexpensive restaurant there and we stayed for a complete and excellent meal. Altogther a fantastic experience and lots of fun, with many local people and families dining there, not just tourists like us! We ended up buying a few bottles of their excellent gin, their top of the line red wine, some soetwyn, and a box of the finest large succulent and tasty dates I've ever seen! If only these items were in a US supermarket!
