点评:We visited City Park primarily to see the troop of Japanese macaques (snow monkeys), which were gifted by Ikeda, Japan in the 1980s. Located right in the centre of Launceston, this popular and free attraction features an enclosure known as “Monkey Island,” complete with a pond and climbing structures.
Beyond the monkeys, City Park is beautifully maintained, with large English trees, colourful flower beds, manicured lawns, and plenty of flat, easy-to-walk paths. Other highlights include a giant chess set, rotunda, the John Hart Conservatory, barbecue areas, and a duck pond.
The park is also very family-friendly, with a well-equipped playground catering to toddlers through to older children. A standout for kids is the City Park train (not public transport), which runs daily except Mondays and public holidays. At just $3.50 per ride, it’s incredibly popular and great value.
A lovely spot to relax, explore, and enjoy a range of attractions, and definitely worth a visit when in Launceston.
