Cahoon Museum Of American Art的点评
点评：The Cahoon Museum of American Art exceeded our expectations in all ways: the new gallery, the respectful use of the historic Cahoon home, the featured exhibits, and the gardens and metal sculpture next door. And did I mention the exhibit interpretation?
As 45-year New Englanders with an interest in sailor art, particularly scrimshaw, Duke Riley’s exhibit blew us away. What an innovative way to make a statement and practice a craft! To use plastic as your canvas because that is sadly what washes up—brilliant! We routinely pick up plastic at local beaches, shuddering at the harm it can wreak. We appreciated naming the offenders.
Also great—offering the hands-on art area for younger visitors to take a stand for the ocean and against pollution.
I’ve collected folk art for years and have long had an interest in sailor’s valentines, so it was fascinating to see the incredible work of painter Ralph Cahoon and sailors valentine artist Bernard “Bernie” Woodman.
If you’re on the Cape and have an interest in American art, the Cahoon Museum of American Art is well worth a visit. We’ll return for future exhibits when we’re on the Cape again.
