Animal cruelty atop a mountain that claims to be a certified “green destination”

Disclaimer: I’m not trying to discourage you from coming here, in fact I’ll say it is a beautiful mountain (if you are willing to climb around 281 steps or so*)
However, as you’ll climb, you will find a couple of vendors selling chips, memorabilia, soda and-
Live trapped birds whimpering, solo (or in pairs) in a tiny bamboo dome filled with their own feces.
To free the poor animal, depending where you buy its freedom, varies from around 50-60 thousand Kip, with “discounts” if you pay more.
A benevolent John Doe has a dilemma: whether to purchase the bird and buy its freedom but risk supporting this animal cruelty, or to let them be. To which I would advise my honest opinion of saying: I don’t know.
Sure, this type of animal cruelty occurs in many forms and places around Southeast Asia, but the shocking and most disturbing part is they dare to advertise themselves with a huge flag of “green location certified”, along with a certificate. To me, this is appalling. And I beg you to email the green location foundation asking them to take the certification away from this horror.
