Nine locks through Manchester

点评：Having heard some bad stories about the locks through Manchester we set off early on Sunday morning from Piccadilly Basin where we had a safe and peaceful night, i would recommend this area to stop overnight as there is both towpath accessible mooring or non accessible mooring behind morrisons, there were very few boats around. There were quite a few boats in Islington basin which i am told is also safe.
Anyway we left at 6.30 and were through all nine locks down to the Bridgewater at Castlefields by 10.30, we were the only boat moving, quite a few moored around Castlefields though.
Under the underpassess there were a few drunk / homeless people around but no hassle really. i would not be worried about doing this trip again during the day time
Most of the locks were full on arrival as the overflow on many seems to be over the top of the lock gate, the gates are big and heavy and do take some moving.
