点评:We reserved a cabin here b/c we actually drove four hours to see Little Jerusalem State Park, a few miles north. We were late (the office closes at 4) getting to the park but we were able to figure out how to get into our cabin (one of two) on the lake. It's a lovely place for peaceful views and to sit by the fire. We stayed two nights. We still had daylight when we arrived, so we walked to the El Quartelejo ruins, which were settled in the 1600's by native Americans escaping Spanish rule.
The following morning we stopped by the office and picked up some trail maps (which were not very helpful). Drove down to the site of the Battle of Punished Woman fork, where the last battle took place between native Americans and the US Cavalry.
We hiked a very steep trail up to the Steele Monument (great views of the lake and surrounding area!)and hiked down just in time to tour the Steele home. This is where Herbert Steele and his wife lived and farmed, and eventually their property became Historic Lake Scott State Park.
After visiting the Steele home, we headed to Little Jerusalem and Monument Rocks. Then back to our cabin to enjoy wine by the fire.
Lake Scott was a good "base camp" for our outings.
