Our problem occurred in trying to pay for parking at the top. We found a spot & proceeded to the restaurant. It was not until we left the restaurant & top of the cable car museum that we realized that we were supposed to use a ticket machine that would indicate our time of arrival in the parking lot! We were there for 1 1/2 hrs. We had a ticket on our car indicating that we now owed $85. Wow! The ticket indicated that we could appeal to a website…which we did! Locals tried to show us how the machine worked but when they tried ,it would not work. They told us “It’s not working ! “. We even spoke with the parking attendant who said he had nothing to do with it. So we left & waited on the response to our appeal which we got once we had flown to the South Island. They rejected our appeal but reduced the payment to $30…However, when we got ready to pay online , the amount owed was back up to $85…and the rental car company charged us $57 for handling the situation. Turns out, it was an expensive lunch and view of Wellington.
