Holstentor的点评
点评：The "Holstentor" (Holsten Gate marks the western boundary of the old center of the city of Lübeck. It was built in 1464 in Brick Gothic style, and it one of the remaining parts of the medieval city fortifications. It is regarded as a symbol of the city. Together with the old city, it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987.
Both tower interiors have the same design, with four floors connected by narrow spiral staircases.
The Holstentor was modified / restored several times across the centuries, with the latest restoration in 2005-2006. The interior of the gate can be visited, and it houses a museum of municipal history, with nine rooms, dedicated to:
- Long distance trade
- Fortification and symbol
- Protection of the city
- Shipping (two rooms)
- Model of Lübeck
- The market
- Legal instruments
- Museum pedagogics
I visited all the rooms: there are over 100 steps, but it's worth doing.
