点评：After reading the novel The Island many years ago I felt it was a must to visit here and I am glad I took the opportunity. I just wish it had been ten years ago maybe.
It seems to have been turned into a money maker which I understand in terms of economy but also it feels not entirely in keeping with the mood of the place.
Building work seems to expanding this side of things at the 'entrance' too. The cafe is very expensive. I was well prepared for this as I was on a full day excursion including other places and the guide had told us to take food and drink from Elounda with us.
Having said that I had a lovely hour or so exploring and as I made the short hike to the top there were certain areas I barely saw anyone. It has a peaceful yet melancholy atmosphere up there. The views are lovely. There is an easier path that does a circular walk around the perimeter at the bottom which I also did.
Wear trainers and definitely have sensible shoes. Even with trainers on there were some very sketchy bits and the cobbles on the paths were slippy in the sunshine as I came back down from the top.
Be forewarned if taking anyone who might struggle with mobility/accessibility it might not be for them especially since there isn't much shade or space for shaded rest. They might want to stay in Elounda/Plaka and have a long lunch!

如果打算带行动不便或需要特殊协助的人一同前往，请务必提前知晓：这里可能并不适合他们，尤其是因为这里几乎没有阴凉处，也没有可供休息的遮蔽空间。他们或许更适合留在埃洛乌达或普拉卡，好好享用一顿丰盛的午餐！带上游泳用品，去咖啡馆旁边游个泳吧；水看起来真不错呢！
