Great resort but marred by several disappointing aspects

点评：Our recent stay was unfortunately marred by several disappointing aspects. The resort itself was amazing, beautiful beach with great snorkeling, lovely rooms (we stayed in a Garden villa which had ensuite and aircon) and the meals were so tasty. We had great trips on the South Sea Cruises ferry and recommend the captains lounge for free drinks, snacks and aircon. However, before we’d even got there and despite multiple attempts to contact reservations, it took 5 weeks of sending a total of 6 emails and making 6 phone calls (no one returned voice mail messages) until we had confirmation that we had paid our final payment which had been done as soon as we received our first final payment email. We were beginning to think that we had been scammed!
Upon arrival, we visited the dive shop and the dive staff were unaware of our reservation which had stated 2 tank dives every day of our stay, leading to a disorganised and frustrating experience. It was only because we had brought our own gear that they could accommodate us as they didn't have enough equipment. Additionally, our lunch on our first day was completely forgotten about and it was only when we realised that everyone else in the restaurant had theirs and we’d been waiting an hour that staff asked us about our order. This happened again but we didn’t wait so long the second time to ask about our order.
The breakfast service was very slow, detracting from what should have been a relaxing start to the day. We and another couple who were diving gave up ordering breakfast as it took too long (40 mins one morning for french toast). The food however was delicious – the 5 course evening meal couldn’t be faulted and there was always a good variety of choice. There was a choice of 3 different sittings as the resort was very busy and a few times even though we’d been asked what time we wanted dinner our names were missing from the list but that didn’t matter and the staff were very accommodating.
The dive staff were great especially the captains and Bolla (dive guide/instructor) who sorted out our booking on our first day making sure we down on the list for diving every day and was good at pointing out critters for us on our dives. We went to different sites every time (total of 12 dives over 6 days). Unfortunately there were several issues with the diving - firstly the gear wasn't well maintained as you could see leaks from tanks, leaks from the guests rental equipment (BCDs and regs). Secondly there were low air fills (around 180 bar). The lowest we found was 150bar which we didn't use and very rarely the tanks were up to 200 bar. This was likely due to worn out o-rings on the yolks. We ended up replacing the o-rings ourselves on most of our dive tanks after having a leaky tank on our first dive coming up on 50 bar. Thirdly the dive times were very short (45 mins) compared to everywhere else we've ever dived even if the divers still had half a tank left. We even heard from a couple of divers that the dive guide had stopped one dive at 30mins as he was tired (!) although they still had plenty of air left. Lastly we were told that the afternoon boat was for intro dives, refreshers and those less experienced but it turned out the more experienced divers were put on the same boat as those who were much less experienced or hadn’t dived for a while. There was usually only one dive guide for a whole group of around 9 diver or varying experience which meant that the dive we experienced was not as enjoyable or relaxed as we were used to.
The diving itself was good but due to having less experienced divers and only one dive guide on the majority of our dives we were unable to go further out to better dive sites. I wouldn't recommend this place for experienced divers.
These issues significantly impacted our overall enjoyment of our stay.
