点评:The Mon Repos turtle centre is treading a line between conservation and commercialism - it's hugely popular and you will need to book in advance. Simply ring the Bundaberg Tourist Office on or near September 1st and book in your preferred date. There is no guarantee that you will see turtles. On the night that you book you are allocated a group and then you wait so be prepared. If you have younger children bring snacks, colouring books etc There is a large information centre that you can explore with interactive exhibits, and of course souvenirs to buy and there is an outdoor theatre which screens a short documentary.
This was my second visit and both times we have been lucky enough to only wait an hour or so. Our first encounter was December and we saw a female lay her eggs and this time in late January we got to see the hatchlings! Our first experience we had a lovely ranger who was more friendly and enjoyed the touristy aspect of her job and the second not so much - or was it just more end of a long season of hosting tourists every night. It didn't dampen our experience though. We still got to see those precious baby turtles! Yes it is commercial, yes it feels touristy - but this is how they fund their conservation efforts. And I would book time and time again to keep it going.
