点评:One of the stops on our recent tour in New England was at the Magic Wings Butterfly Conservancy in Deerfield MA. Our tour group of 35 was greeted at the entrance and given instruction about how to interact (and not) with the butterflies when we enter the garden. Then we were directed to an area that had various live small reptiles and large bugs in displays. We also saw a display with the butterflies from caterpillar to the different stages of cocoon, to butterflies emerging from the final cocoons. The visit to the butterfly garden featured a delightful indoor walk with lots of plants and flowers, and free flying butterflies of many varieties. I’ve been to butterfly places before, but this one had far more butterflies. The most numerous and most gregarious were fairly large with white & black wings. I was fascinated with a species that had an intricate brown pattern on the underside of the wings, and a beautiful blue on the top—the blue only being seen as they were flying, or if they’d barely just landed. I also saw for the first time a glasswing butterfly—as its name suggests, the wings are see-through! There were some small birds called button quail running around. There were knowledgeable staff all about, that could answer any questions, and explain about the behaviors and safety of the butterflies. This was an interesting visit, and I would recommend it to others.
