点评:We were sold Koh Kai Nai (Cat Island) as a charming, family-friendly half-day excursion — just a short 1-hour transfer from our hotel in Kamala Beach. Reality? Try 2 hours each way in mini bus transport stopping at several other hotels. That’s 4 hours of travel time.
Our operator, PH Marine, was below average at best. The welcome facilities were lacklustre compared to other tours we’ve experienced in Thailand. The “English-speaking guide” might be better described as a “barely-English guide”. Sweet but difficult to understand.
This was advertised as a swimming/snorkelling trip — yet we were told it wasn’t safe to swim. Turns out, he was right. The sea was rough, the waves were crashing, and the water murky. I get that weather happens, but the experience was so far removed from the glossy brochure that it felt almost comical.
Once on the island, it only got worse. It’s filthy. So much so that we were explicitly warned not to go barefoot due to broken glass from drunken visitors. Not exactly ideal when you have a curious six-year-old eager to explore. And yes — there was glass everywhere. Luckily, the tour operator sells overpriced aqua shoes (of course they do).
The locals? I hate to say it, but they were relentless. Before we even stepped off the boat, we were swarmed — photographers shoving lenses in our faces, touts trying to flog parasailing, jet skis, and cocktails all overpriced for a captive market. And yes, you’ll even pay to pee too.
The only highlight? Dozens of cats roaming around like they run the place (which, to be fair, they kind of do). Cute, yes — but not worth the ordeal.
Would I recommend it?
No. Save your time, money, and sanity. Lounge by the hotel pool or book a proper sightseeing trip to Phi Phi or beyond.
