Don’t miss a visit to Altit Fort, the views are spectacular

点评：Altit Fort is 1,100 years old and the oldest monument in the Hunza Valley.
To showcase its historical significance, in more recent years the fort has been meticulously restored. The visitor can now explore this square shaped fort with its small passageways, rooms and strategic view points.
Access to the fort is via a pathway through the royal garden. This pathway is well maintained and only becomes steep once you near the fort. There are a number of steps leading to the fort and then inside the fort.
Entrance to the fort is 1,500 Pakistani Rupees for a foreigner. Apart from access to the fort you are also given a personal guide. Their knowledge is understandably detailed and interesting and certainly makes your visit more meaningful.
One of the stand out memories of Altit Fort for me would be the views. They are magnificent and the colour of the Hunza River just amazing.
Look out for the ‘bravery test’ stone pillars that are situated to the right of the fort when first approaching it. You will see them once you are inside the fort from one of the viewing terraces. These natural stone pillars stand independently and in years gone by were used to test the Hunza soldiers bravery. They would jump between them and perform acrobatics in an effort to impress. If any mistakes were made then it meant a fall to certain death.
