点评:We were looking for things to do in Australind and came across the Featured Wood Gallery & Museum. We weren’t sure whether it would be worth a stop, but we’re incredibly glad we went. The name doesn’t begin to describe the experience.
The front gallery features exceptional local carvings and artwork, but the real highlight was the private tour of the back-room gallery. It’s filled with collections of genuine historical significance, showcasing past conflicts and American and Australian Indigenous settlement. Many pieces have remarkable provenance, including soldier mannequins dressed in original uniforms worn by local heroes who served in combat.
John guided us through every display and shared the work he does with veterans, schools, and people experiencing mental health challenges and grief. His passion shows in every part of the museum.
This place is absolutely worth a visit. The back-gallery tour is only $5, and it’s the best attraction we’ve seen on our WA holiday so far.
